Comment guidelines

Comments are moderated, which means they don’t appear immediately. We check them all before they go live. Partly this is because some comments are spam, and we don’t want any of that if we can help it. But also it’s to ensure things stay enjoyable for everyone. Sometimes we might discuss issues that divide opinion and produce strong reactions, but however strongly we feel, we’ve all got to respect the views of others.

Please make sure any comment you post is directly relevant to the discussion, and if you disagree with other contributors, please criticise their arguments, not their character.

Please try to make one point per comment. It makes it easier for others to follow and to respond.

Please excuse us if we take a while to post your comment, or if you ask a question and it takes us a while to answer.

Please also be aware of some of the things that might cause us to delete a comment:- off-topic comments; swearing or insulting language; ranting or repetition of the same point; harassing, impersonating or intimidating others; giving out your own or other people’s personal information; advertising; posts in foreign languages; or writing in CAPS (which is like shouting).
